This draft paper is the outcome of a study that was funded by the Society of Actuaries Committee on Health Benefit Systems Research. The study examines the reliability and validity of the Health Plan Employee Data and Information Set (HEDIS) performance measures. In addition, the study investigates ways to make HEDIS data collection less burdensome and analyzes the extent to which enrollee satisfaction survey results reflect health plan performance.

It is our intention by placing the paper on the website to add to the body of HEDIS knowledge and provide an additional resource to those interested in this topic. Please direct all comments and questions to the authors.
