BADRI and Society of Actuaries Announce Winning Teams from ActuMinds Inter-University Case Study Competition

Fakhri Trade Center-Karachi / Pakistan 12th June 2025 - Helping to nurture future talent in the actuarial field, the ActuMinds—Inter-University Case Study Competition, hosted by BADRI and the Society of Actuaries (SOA), announced the winning university teams. Designed to bridge academic knowledge with industry application, this competition provides a way for aspiring actuaries to demonstrate their analytical thinking, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving skills.

The top teams selected are:

  • The Beta Brigade from NED University of Engineering and Technology—First Place (Rida Fatima, Laiba Irshad, Mehak Shoukat and Farah Fatima Saleem)
  • Infinite Coverage from University of Karachi (KU)—First Runner-Up (Syed Mohammad Mujtaba Jaffry, Syed Khizer Ahmed and Syed Moosa Bokhari)
  • Risk Flex from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA)—Second Runner-Up (Omer Anwar, Zemmil Samad and Batool Muhammad)

This is the second year of the competition, and there were 72 teams registering from top institutions. Students were challenged with complex actuarial case studies requiring analytical acumen, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving skills essential for a successful career in actuarial science. Eight teams advanced to the final round, where they presented their solutions to a panel of distinguished judges. To guide their journey, each shortlisted team was assigned industry mentors, seasoned professionals who offered strategic advice, industry perspectives, and coaching on their final presentations. The competition helps shape the future of the actuarial profession by equipping students with practical experience, exposure to real industry challenges, and networking opportunities that can define their career trajectory.

The organizations would like to thank the distinguished panel of judges who brought their industry expertise to the evaluation process: Zain Ibrahim (Regional Director for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, SOA) Javed Ahmed (Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Jubilee Life), Nayyar Hussain (Senior Executive Director at Salaam Family Takaful Limited), and Omar Khan (Council Member, Pakistan Society of Actuaries).

The collaboration between BADRI and the SOA underscores a shared vision to cultivate actuarial excellence across the region. As part of this competition, the SOA provided scholarships for the exam P and FM to the winning teams, further supporting their journey towards becoming credentialed actuaries.

ActuMinds fosters talent and builds a more connected actuarial community. Beyond competition, it offers participants an opportunity to engage with seasoned professionals, gain valuable feedback, and build relationships supporting their professional journeys.
